MECCHA CHAMELEON Guide

The complete MECCHA CHAMELEON guide hub: round structure, both roles, controls, game modes and where to start — everything new players need in one place.

Last updated

MECCHA CHAMELEON is a multiplayer hide-and-seek party game where hiders paint their white bodies to mimic the stage while seekers hunt them down before the timer runs out. This guide hub is the starting point of the wiki: it explains how a round actually works, what each role does, and where to go next for the deep-dive pages.

How a round works

Every match in MECCHA CHAMELEON runs through the same three phases, confirmed by multiple independent guides and unchanged since launch:

  1. Hide & paint phase — hiders get a host-configurable amount of time to explore the map, paint their bodies and freeze into a pose. Seekers are locked away during this window.
  2. Hunt phase — seekers are released and must tag every hider before the search timer expires.
  3. Results phase — surviving hiders and successful seekers are scored, then the next round loads.

There is no fixed global timer value published by the developer: the hide-phase length is set per lobby by the host. Community discussion regularly debates the ideal value, which is why our host settings notes avoid recommending a single "correct" number.

The two roles

MECCHA CHAMELEON is genuinely a two-player-content game. Whichever side you are on, you are playing against someone who has read the other side's playbook:

  • Chameleon (hider) — you paint, pose and hold still. Winning is about color matching, breaking your outline and choosing psychology-proof spots. Start with the hider guide, then study the best hiding spots page.
  • Seeker — you sweep the map, listen for forced whistles and shoot suspicious props. Shots are not free, so random spraying loses rounds. The seeker tips page covers the fundamentals.

Controls at a glance

Movement is standard first-person-shooter DNA with one twist — paint mode. The table below reflects the default PC keybinds; the pose-interaction keys are still unconfirmed in public documentation, so treat that row as the most likely to change.

ActionDefault key
MoveW A S D
Look / aimMouse
SprintShift
Jump / climb up a wallSpace
Crouch / move down on a wallCtrl
Enter paint modeF

One warning from the community: the default layout assumes a QWERTY keyboard, and AZERTY players report needing to rebind manually on first launch.

Game modes

Three modes ship with the game, and they change the round loop significantly:

  • Normal — the classic loop described above. Caught hiders are simply eliminated.
  • Double — everyone hides first, then everyone becomes a seeker; the round turns into a frenzy.
  • Infection — caught hiders convert to the seeker team. Community host settings for balanced Infection rounds converge on roughly a 60-second paint time, a 10-minute search time and forced whistles every 30 seconds.

Mode-by-mode strategy lives inside the role guides, because the right hiding spot changes when seekers multiply.

Where to go next

New players should read the beginner guide first — it compresses the first two hours into a checklist. Veterans looking for an edge should jump straight to tips and tricks, then pick a side: hider playbook or seeker tips.
